Dust test

Test introduction

The IP (INGRESS PROTECTION) protection level system was drafted by IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION) to classify electrical appliances according to their characteristics of dust and moisture resistance. The foreign objects referred to here include tools, human fingers, etc., which are not accessible to the live parts of the appliance to avoid electric shock. The IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number indicates the level of dustproofing and prevention of foreign objects entering the appliance. The second number indicates the degree of airtightness of the appliance against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the degree of protection. high.

IP stands for Ingress Protection. IEC IP protection is an important part of electrical equipment safety protection. IP and other protection level systems provide a way to classify products by dust, water and collision resistance of electrical equipment and packaging. This system has been approved by most European countries, drafted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and published in the IED529 (BS EN 60529:1992) IP code.

IP dustproof and waterproof grade introduction

The first digit after IP: dust rating

Digital protection range
IP0X No protection No special protection for people or things outside.
IP1X prevents the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 50mm in diameter. Prevents the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally coming into contact with the internal parts of the appliance, preventing the invasion of foreign objects of larger size (greater than 50mm in diameter).
IP2X prevents the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 12.5mm in diameter. Prevents human fingers from coming into contact with parts inside the appliance to prevent intrusion of medium-sized foreign objects (larger than 12.5mm in diameter).
IP3X prevents the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 2.5mm in diameter. Prevents intrusion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm into contact with parts inside the appliance.
IP4X prevents the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 1.0mm in diameter. Prevents intrusion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm into contact with parts inside the appliance.
IP5X prevents foreign objects and dust from completely preventing foreign matter from entering. Although it cannot completely prevent dust from entering, the amount of dust intrusion does not affect the normal operation of the appliance.
IP6X prevents foreign objects and dust from completely preventing foreign objects and dust from entering
The second digit after IP: waterproof rating

Digital protection range
IPX0 No protection No special protection against water or moisture
IPX1 prevents water droplets from immersing Vertically falling water droplets (such as condensate) do not damage electrical appliances
IPX2 can prevent water droplets from immersing when tilted at 15 degrees. When the appliance is tilted vertically to 15 degrees, dripping water will not damage the appliance.
IPX3 prevents the sprayed water from immersing in the rain or preventing the water sprayed in the direction of the vertical angle less than 60 degrees from intruding into the appliance and causing damage.
IPX4 prevents splashing of water from immersing. Prevents water splashing in all directions from intruding into the appliance and causing damage.
IPX5 prevents jetted water from immersing to prevent damage from water ejected from nozzles in all directions
IPX6 prevents large waves from immersing in electrical appliances installed on the deck to prevent damage from large waves.
IPX7 prevents water from immersing when immersed in water. The appliance is immersed in water for a certain period of time or the water pressure is below a certain standard to ensure that it is not damaged by water immersion.
IPX8 prevents water from immersing in the sinking. The appliance is sunk indefinitely under the specified water pressure to ensure that it is not damaged by water immersion.
